I just finished reading the Guide to Investing Book by sir Fitz Villafuerte of Ready To Be Rich and I think it is worth to share some lessons I learned. If you’re looking for the book’s review, this might help. Let’s go!

Note: Before we dive into the book review itself, I just want you to take note that I am not affiliated or connected to sir Fitz. Although I looked up to him as a virtual mentor because of what he do and his advocacy, this is not in anyway paid or what so ever. What you’re going to read are my own personal views and opinion. I hope that make sense.
Guide to Investing Book: Physical Cover
The Guide to Investing Book physical cover is very neat. It’s in white background with just the title and key information on it. Not like other books with so many text and images.
It’s around 9 inches x 6 inches I think in size, in a softbound cover and printed in normal book paper.
Easy to handle and easy to read.
The front cover image is very simple yet meaningful. It’s a small plant ready to grow.
Here’s a snapshot of the front cover.
While the back cover contains some information about the book and information about the author (I don’t attached the pic here). Like any normal book you see.
I also managed to get a dedication from Fitz when I bought the book. Here it is.
I admire sir Fitz in his simplicity. Even in his blog, you can see that the design are very simple. All content and less distractions.
Reading this book is like reading his blog offline.
Guide to Investing Book: The Content
If you’re following Fitz on his blog and on his social media, you might already know how he share and produce content. It’s all useful and practical information.
This book covers all the basic guide you need to know before you start investing your money.
Here’s the table of contents to give you the glimpse of what you’re going to learn on the book.
Before the formal content started, the Guide to Investing Book have some 8 questions that will really help you narrow down and learn the basics first. It’s called the 8 Steps Crash Course to Investing.
It’s a series of questions where you’ll be asked about your goals and knowledge about investing. That helped me realized that there are other important things I need to consider before starting to invest.
Ok, let’s keep rolling.
Chapter 1 is all about mindset. Fitz believe and advocates that it takes proper mindset to successfully manage your finances. It covers some discipline and fundamental information you need to have before starting to invest.
This is exactly true, you can see that this blog contains “mindset category” where you can learn about proper mindset and attitude about personal finance.
Chapter 2 is about Personal Finance where Fitz shares the importance of saving, budgeting, tracking your expenses and getting out of debt. He also shares actionable strategy you can use in personal finance.
Chapter 3 talks about Protection. It covers emergency fund and insurance. The good thing about the Guide to Investing Book is all chapters and almost all topics have their own scenario and practical examples where Fitz shows how it worked and how it is being done.
Yes, it contains numbers and data you can use as reference when dealing with your own financial goals.
On Chapter 4, sir Fitz talked about investor orientation. Again the proper thinking and baseline before you start investing your money. He also shares the difference between an asset, liabilities and investments.
On this chapter he also shares the importance of setting investment goals. He also shared some samples and strategy you can use. As I’ve mentioned earlier, good thing about this book are numbers and data.
It contain set of examples that really provide big picture of the topic especially for beginners.
As I also always shared on this blog, your investment goal will determine what type of investment you need to use.
Chapter 5 talks about different types of investment. From cash deposits, real estate, business, stock market, uitf, mutual funds and ETF.
You’ll learn the basic and fundamentals of these investment vehicles + as I’ve shared, sir Fitz gave some practical examples that you can use as reference.
On Chapter 6, sir Fitz talked about building your investment portfolio. He talked about the feature, risk and term of investments you can use to achieve your investment goals.
Again with data and practical examples.
On Chapter 7 he shares the importance of peso cost averaging.
Chapter 8 covers how you stay on track and re-balance your investment portfolio.
On Chapter 9, sir Fitz talked about time, wealth and happiness. Again it will motivate and inspire you to take action.
Chapter 10 covers the summary of everything.
All these chapters contain much valuable information from what I’ve shared. These are just tip of the iceberg.
As mentioned, it is full-packed of actionable items and practical examples you can use and apply in your investing journey.
My Takeaways
I learned so much after reading this book. It gave me better understanding of the basics and fundamentals of smart investing.
It’s a great help especially for those who are just starting to build their investment portfolio like us. With all those data and practical examples, you’ll get the solid foundation on how you will implement your investment in a very smart way.
Additionally, it helped me re-shaped my thinking in my future investment ventures.
In fact, we’re able to open a BDO UITF account based from examples sir Fitz shared on this book(this is my biggest takeaway from this book).
Yes, we used this as reference. We opened a BDO Balance Fund UITF for our “house downpayment goal“. Why balance fund? It’s because we think that’s the best type of UITF suits our goal. I’ll share that in the next article.
Here’s the step by step guide how we open a BDO UITF online.
The book just cost P500. With all the value and learning I got, it’s all worth it.
What can you buy with P500 today? A box of pizza and couple of beers? That might be cool but there’s better option.
That P500 can be invested on yourself by buying books like this. As I always shared on this blog, investing in yourself is the best investment of all time.
Again I’m not an affiliate. I just want to point out the value you can get when you bought this book. Check the Ready To Be Rich blog to know more about sir Fitz and his book.
Holiday is coming. If you’re thinking a valuable but practical gift for yourself and your love ones, the Guide to Investing book is a good choice.
Before I end this article, let me share the quote on the last page on the book.
I hope this has been helpful, until next time. Cheers!
